HKBU launches three Direct Admission Schemes with the aim of recognising the talent of local applicants that could not be fully assessed by the national / international examinations alone. These schemes provide opportunities for local applicants who have demonstrated exceptional talents and interests in specific disciplines / areas to be considered for direct admission to HKBU.

HKBU Students with Exceptional Talent Direct Admissions Scheme (SETDAS)

The objective of HKBU Students with Exceptional Talent Direct Admissions Scheme (SETDAS) is to embrace diversity in admissions and to give due recognition to applicants who are with exceptional talents which may not be fully reflected in their academic performance. In essence, SETDAS is a “programme-student matching exercise” in recognition of applicants with special talents.

The general and programme entrance requirements will be exempted for students with exceptional talents/ achievements who have been rigorously assessed and considered eligible for admissions by respective programmes.

HKBU Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme (TADAS)

Over the years, it is encouraging to witness that there is an increasing number of talented athletes in the community who choose to pursue their aspirations in higher education while continuing to strive for excellence in sports achievements.

To offer our due commitment in supporting the talented athletes in the community, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) launched the Elite Athletes Admission Scheme (EAAS) in 2016 and has since admitted more than 70 student-athletes to study programmes at undergraduate level across a wide spectrum of disciplines in Arts, Social Sciences, Business, Science, and Communication. Some shining examples are the Olympic medalist Ms. Sarah Lee the Paralympic medalist Mr. Daniel Chan, and the Asian Games medalist Ms. Joey Chan and Mr. Max Lee.

Building on the solid foundation of the EAAS, HKBU has enhanced EAAS and launched the “Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme” (TADAS)* (i.e. the UGC SALSA*) specifically for local talented athletes who wish to study at our University to achieve their full potentials in both sports and academic pursuit. School Nominations Direct Admission Scheme (SNDAS)

The School Nominations Direct Admission Scheme (SNDAS) is introduced by the Education Bureau (EDB) with the aim of recognising the talent of local secondary students that could not be fully assessed by the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE).  The objective of SNDAS is to give due recognition to applicants who have contributed to social services or made outstanding achievements in non-academic areas or who have demonstrated leadership abilities.

  2. The nominee must apply for admission to universities through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) in parallel.

Physical Education and Recreation Management | Year 1

I am honoured to have been accepted by HKBU through the Direct Admission Scheme “SETDAS” in 2023; this has allowed me to pursue both my academic interests and athletic development, knowing that HKBU has always placed a strong emphasis on supporting athletes. In terms of academics, the university provides flexible class schedules and academic arrangements, providing me ample of learning space and the most suitable plan for completing my studies.

Studying in the Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health (SPEH) has allowed me to acquire more knowledge related to sports and connect with outstanding classmates and professors from diverse backgrounds, providing me with a rich learning platform and opportunities for exchange, enabling my continuous growth and broadening my horizons.

I am very grateful for the university’s acknowledgement of my sports performance and admitted me through the Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme (TADAS), making it possible for me to become a student-athlete in higher education. In-advance rescheduling of courses has provided flexibility to accommodate my sports training. Meanwhile, the university also carefully caters for my visual impairment by making fitting arrangements for classes and examinations. Having been away from school for a decade, I am also very thankful for the assistance by university staff and teachers, which helped me to fit in more quickly.

Physical Education and Recreation Management | Year 2

TADAS gives us full-time athletes the opportunity to attend Hong Kong Baptist University. TADAS provides us with a lot of support, helping us balance academics and sports, and encouraging us to develop in both directions.

I have enjoyed the learning experience and environment at HKBU. The university provides student-athletes with a flexible schedule to handle academic work and sports. When I have something that I don’t understand, teachers and teaching assistants are willing to explain and assist me. In addition, teachers also encourage us to share our thoughts in class. Therefore, I am very grateful to HKBU and the Department of Sport, PE & Health for giving me so much support and help, so that I can have an amazing and enjoyable university learning experience.
