Admissions Requirements

We adopt a holistic approach in selecting applicants on individual merits. Applicants are required to meet:

  • the university entrance requirements (using international curricula or regional/national curricula);
  • the English language requirements; and,
  • if any, the programme entrance requirements.

 

High School Graduation Diploma with one of the following:

  • SAT:
    Minimum score of 1,190 (out of 1,600) in new SAT
  • Advanced Placement (AP):
    Grade 3 in at least two AP subjects
  • American College Test (ACT):
    Minimum composite score of 23
  • Associate Degree (AD):
    Successful completion of one year's study in a full-time AD programme at a recognised US university/ community college, provided that the duration of the programme should be at least two years in full-time mode.
  • Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) in community colleges:
    Successful completion of IGETC with Grade C or above in each of the subjects

For students who intended to take Chinese Language and Literature, Creative and Professional Writing, Humanities or Translation Major, they are expected to have a Chinese language qualification as deemed acceptable by the University. For Creative and Professional Writing and Humanities, special arrangements will be made for international students without Chinese language qualification.

For the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music programme, applicants are required to submit their music qualifications and/or examination results. All applicants must have a good result in Grade 8 ABRSM practical grade / performance grade or its equivalent (especially for Chinese Instruments) and at least Grade 5 in ABRSM Theory or its equivalent, and/or show evidence of distinction in music. In addition, applicants will submit a portfolio, and shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an aptitude test, interview and/or audition. For the Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Creative Industries programme, applicants are required to submit the following materials:

  1. The examination results of music qualification (Practical, Theory), including but not limited to the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music (Preferable Result: Practical/Performance: Grade 8 or above, Theory: Grade 5 or above)
  2. A portfolio via an online portfolio submission system.

Fees and Scholarships

Fees

The tuition fee of full-time undergraduate programmes for 2023-24 is HK$42,100 for local students and HK$145,000 for non-local students1 respectively. Fees are to be paid in two equal instalments.

  1. Definition of non-local students:

    Non-local students are defined as persons entering Hong Kong for the purpose of education with any of the following student visa/ entry permit issued by the Director of Immigration of the Hong Kong Government:
    • - student visa/ entry permit
    • - visa under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates
    • - dependent visa, who are aged 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa
       
    Those who do not belong to this category will be considered as local applicants. Please check with the Admissions Office on your local/non-local status when in doubt.

    Under the current immigration policy, nationals from Afghanistan, Cuba, Laos, North Korea(DPRK) and Nepal may not be able to obtain a student visa to study in Hong Kong. For details, please click here.

We also offer exchange programmes, short-term visiting programmes, Higher Diploma and self-financing top-up degree programmes. Mature students may also apply for admission to the University.

Students who are enrolled in other universities may apply for admission to the University as exchange students normally for one or two semesters with agreement from their home universities regarding transfer of units. For details/ enquiries, please visit the website of International Office.  

Local and Mainland Visiting Students

Local and Mainland applicants who do not intend to study an undergraduate programme but plan to take only certain courses (not more than 11 units) may be considered on an individual basis. Applicants should meet the University and Programme Entrance Requirements.

Applicants who do not possess formal academic qualifications listed in our website and are aged 25 or above on 1 September of the admission year may be granted exemption from the University Admissions Requirements provided that they have pursued a programme of study recognised by the University and are able to demonstrate their suitability to study the selected programme.
