Programme Description

This is a 6-year full-time double degree programme, with 15-month internship training, and an Honours Project. The curriculum of the programme encompasses extensive courses in Chinese medicine as well as courses in biomedical and clinical Western medicine, in an approximate ratio of 7:3.

Instructors in this programme use diversified teaching tools and activities, including multimedia teaching tools, case study, group discussion, and laboratory practice, medicinal herb field trips, and hospital visits to achieve outcome-based teaching and learning. To uphold the spirit of "Whole Person Education" as advocated by the University, 31 credits courses in general education are included in the new curriculum.

Student Learning Experiences

Clinical practice and internship are key elements in this curriculum. During the academic years, students attend practicum in clinics operated by School of Chinese Medicine of HKBU. In the fifth and sixth year, students are also required to complete 12-month internship in a Chinese Medicine teaching hospital in mainland China, followed by a 3-month specialized clinical internship.

Career Opportunities

Most graduates go on to become Chinese Medicine practitioners, the demand for which is increasing. The licensing requirement of Chinese Medicine practitioners has been enforced in Hong Kong since 2003, and our graduates are expected to meet the most stringent requirements of licensing qualifications. Some graduates may go into postgraduate studies and pursue research careers in local and overseas institutions, and a small proportion of graduates may seek out careers in education, administration in public health sector, or commercial sector in Chinese Medicine.

  1. Upon score calculation and compilation of interview results (if any), eligible applicants will be given a rank in the Merit Order List to the JUPAS Office. The Merit Order List will be generated according to the priority given to the list of Tie-breakers. During the admissions process, the following are the most commonly used tie-breakers by the programmes offered by the University.

Note:

As programmes select students not only on the basis of the HKDSE results, the actual results of the students admitted to each programme may vary from year to year (depending on the overall results achieved by applicants in a particular year, the number of applicants applying to the programme, changes in selection criteria, etc.). Please be reminded that information listed above is for reference ONLY and is subject to change, and should NOT be used to predict the chance of admission to any programme.
