Programme Description

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Programme (Human Resources Management Concentration) has been recognised as the leading undergraduate programme in human resources management in Hong Kong in recent university ranking surveys. It provides main focus on human resources management, combining rigour of a business degree with exposure to general business management in order to prepare students for the workplace challenges on people issues they will encounter and management of talents in both local and international corporations. Its graduates have been highly regarded by their employers, plus strong alumni network.

 

Unique Features

  • The HRM Concentration furnishes students with comprehensive knowledge to prepare for the HR profession, including talent planning, recruitment and selection, human resources management and talent development, performance and reward management, labour relations and law.
  • The HRM Mentoring Programme enables students to gain first-hand knowledge about the world of work and to start building their personal business networks through interactions with their mentors, who are senior HR and business executives.
  • Students can apply their academic knowledge and skills in an actual work environment by enrolling in Business Internship, an HRM Concentration elective course. The course allows them to work as company interns for a semester while at the same time gaining academic credits.
  • Students can pursue additional graduation options, including Double Concentration within BBA, or a Minor in non-business discipline.
  • HRM graduates are eligible to apply for membership from professional HR organisations, for instance, Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management, Hong Kong People Management Association, Institute of Training Professionals, and Australian Human Resources Institute, etc.


Student Learning Experiences

All BBA students are required to complete at least 120 hours of experiential learning activities (exchange/internship/service learning) before graduation.


Career Opportunities

HRM graduates can pursue careers in human resources management with generalist HR roles or specialist roles, such as recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation and benefits, or industrial relations, and other general management opportunities.
 

Remarks

1)# As the 2019/20 Academic Year is the start of the 2019-2022 triennium for which UGC-funded programmes are still subject to the Government's and the Legislative Council's approval, the number of student intake places shown in this web page is indicative only and subject to change or confirmation at a later date.

2) Students may have the option of taking an integrated programme by extending their undergraduate study by one year, leading to the award of a bachelor's degree in that Major plus a Diploma in Education.

For 2019 entry, the Programme will consider Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or 2) as unspecified elective subject in meeting the entrance requirements and as a whole subject in score calculation.

The Programme will not consider any Applied Learning Subjects as an unspecified elective subject.

The Programme will consider grade E or above in Other Language subjects as unspecified elective subject.

In general, the scores for the Other Language Subjects (Category C) are converted as follows:

A=5**, B=5*, C=5, D=4, E=3

  1. Upon score calculation and compilation of interview results (if any), eligible applicants will be given a rank in the Merit Order List to the JUPAS Office. The Merit Order List will be generated according to the priority given to the list of Tie-breakers. During the admissions process, the following are the most commonly used tie-breakers by the programmes offered by the University.

If a programme ranks the tie-breakers as: '1' to 'HKDSE Academic Score', '2' to 'Band', '3' to 'HKDSE Standard + 1 best X Subject Score', applicants with highest HKDSE Academic Score will be ranked first. If there are two applicants having the same HKDSE Academic Score, the one who places the programme in a higher band choice will be ranked higher. If the two applicants are the same on the first 2 tie-breakers, their HKDSE Standard + 1 best X Subject Score will be compared, the one with higher HKDSE Standard + 1 best X Subject Score will be given a higher rank, and so on.
