Programme Description

This is a five-year full-time Double Degree programme, providing students with knowledge and skills in the academic discipline of Education and Geography/History/Sociology. Graduates will receive a recognised teaching qualification. Besides thorough training in the teaching of Liberal Studies, students will also acquire basic competence on the teaching of the PSHE (Personal, Social and Humanities Education) Key Learning Area. In addition to two academic disciplines, students will also be exposed to knowledge and skills of many other fields through the General Education and Electives components of the programmes.

Most courses on-campus is taught by a combination of lecture-discussion and seminars. Some courses will be held at late afternoon and Saturday morning. Blended learning is also commonly used. For Field Practice in schools, students will be supervised on-site by school mentors and assessed by supervisors from the Department of Education Studies. Students will also be observed by peers.

During the 5th year of study, students complete their Honours Projects under the guidance of the Department of Geography/History/Sociology.

Unique Features
Double degree students have "dual identities" as they are majoring in both Education and another Social Sciences discipline. They take Geography/ History/ Sociology courses together with those who major in these "single degrees". For Education courses, students from various Majors (Geography/ History/ Sociology) will team together, providing them with many chances to share their knowledge and insights gained from the Majors.

Student Learning Experiences
The University provides ample opportunities of local and foreign internships, study tours and overseas exchanges. Field Practice in local schools is an essential element of the BEd degree within the programme and students must complete them satisfactorily. Field Practice consists of two components: School Experience and Supervised Teaching Practice. Please refer to the programme website for details.

Career Opportunities
Graduates will obtain a recognized teaching qualification.  Besides joining the education sector, they will also be able to embark on a career in the business sector, the civil service, or other civil society organizations.

For 2019 entry, the JS2680 Programme will NOT consider Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or 2) as unspecified elective subject in meeting the entrance requirements. However, it will consider M1/M2 subject as a whole subject in score calculation.

The Programme will NOT consider any Applied Learning Subjects as an unspecified elective subject.

The Programme will consider grade E or above in Other Language subjects as unspecified elective subject.

In general, the scores for the Other Language Subjects (Category C) are converted as follows:

A=5**, B=5*, C=5, D=4, E=3

  1. Upon score calculation and compilation of interview results (if any), eligible applicants will be given a rank in the Merit Order List to the JUPAS Office. The Merit Order List will be generated according to the priority given to the list of Tie-breakers. During the admissions process, the following are the most commonly used tie-breakers by the programmes offered by the University.

Note:

As programmes select students not only on the basis of the HKDSE results, the actual results of the students admitted to each programme may vary from year to year (depending on the overall results achieved by applicants in a particular year, the number of applicants applying to the programme, changes in selection criteria, etc.). Please be reminded that information listed above is for reference ONLY and is subject to change, and should NOT be used to predict the chance of admission to any programme.
